How the impact mechanism works
Hold the base and rotate the handle: detents click through four settings, and the one you've chosen shows in the viewing window. Press down and the handle loads a spring, then releases an internal impact block against the tamping base. Let go and the mechanism resets itself, while your setting stays exactly where you left it.

- Concentric rings on the face – The 58 mm base leaves a ring pattern on the puck, designed to encourage more even water distribution across and through the coffee bed.
- Automatic reset – Nothing to re-cock or re-dial between shots.
- Aluminium and stainless steel – Comes with a silicone protective base, in the six ORBI colours.
In your routine
- Pick a setting. Rotate the handle and check the window.
- Distribute. Level the grounds first, ideally with the Varia ORBI Distributor.
- Tamp. Seat Calibre on the basket and press to trigger the impact. Release, and it's reset for the next shot.
Our take
How hard you tamp matters less than tamping the same way every time. Calibre gives you a number you can write next to your recipe, which takes the guesswork out of dialling in: fix the tamp, then change only the grind. Ist ein dynamometrischer Tamper sinnvoll?
Ja, wenn du reproduzierbar arbeiten willst. Der Anpressdruck ist dann eine feste Größe statt Gefühlssache. So kannst du beim Einstellen nur noch am Mahlgrad drehen, statt zwei Variablen gleichzeitig zu jagen.
Wie stelle ich den Anpressdruck ein?
Basis festhalten und den Griff drehen. Er rastet bei 15, 20, 25 und 30 kg ein, die gewählte Zahl siehst du im Sichtfenster.
Tamper mit Feder oder Impact – was ist der Unterschied?
Beim Calibre spannt der Druck auf den Griff eine Feder, die einen inneren Schlagblock mit der gewählten Stufe gegen die Basis auslöst. Die Kraft kommt also vom Mechanismus, nicht davon, wie fest du dich draufstemmst, und du wählst sie aus vier Stufen statt mit einer festen Feder zu leben.
Muss ich ihn nach jedem Tamp zurücksetzen?
Nein. Der Mechanismus setzt sich beim Loslassen selbst zurück, deine Stufe bleibt eingestellt.
Passt er an ORBI und andere 58-mm-Siebe – und kann ich schon bestellen?
Der Calibre hat eine selbstnivellierende 58-mm-Basis und gehört zur Varia-ORBI-Serie, passt also zum 58-mm-Sieb von ORBI Portable und ORBI PRO. Für Siebe anderer Marken schreib uns kurz im Chat, Varia hat die genaue Toleranz noch nicht veröffentlicht.
