Grown at altitudes between 1,600 and 1,700 meters above sea level, these coffee cherries ripen slowly, developing large, sweet fruit with an intense concentration of flavor. Carefully washed and processed at the Karimikui wet mill, the result is an incredibly elegant, juicy, and fruity classic Kenyan coffee with a distinct sense of origin. Simply a magnificent Kenya coffee!
The small region in Kirinyaga where Karimikui is located is predominantly a tea-growing area, making most of the coffee farms relatively young. Much of the land was planted with coffee just before hybrid varieties emerged in Kenya. As a result, the majority of the smallholders supplying Karimikui grow the legendary SL28 and SL34 cultivars—a true hallmark for a classic Kenyan flavor profile.
Karimikui is operated by the Rung’eto Farmer Cooperative Society (FCS) and receives cherries from roughly 2,591 smallholder farmers after harvest. The cup itself is juicy and approachable in body, boasting a sweet, balanced acidity reminiscent of orange and fresh berries. Bright notes of raspberry, mandarin, grapefruit, and apricot intermingle with rich caramel undertones, leading to a light, delicate finish.
