A café workflow on a kitchen-sized footprint. The Arkel Tide is a compact dual boiler espresso machine from Porto, built around a quiet, steady gear pump and ready to plumb straight into your water line and drain. At just 275 mm wide without its side handles, it fits on counters where a dual boiler normally has no business fitting – and then pulls shots like the machine behind your favourite espresso bar.

Why the gear pump matters

Most compact machines push water with a vibration pump: that familiar buzz, that pulsing pressure. The Tide swaps it for a continuous gear pump. You get smooth flow, cleaner pressure curves and no rattle on the worktop. Arkel adds electronic flow control through pump speed, so you can shape the shot as it runs – a soft, programmable pre-infusion, a full-bodied ramp, a gentle taper at the end.

Two boilers, no waiting for steam

  • 0.5 L brew boiler + 0.7 L steam boiler, both stainless steel – brew and steam at the same time.
  • PID brew temperature, set from the glass front panel between 88 and 96 °C.
  • Saturated group for temperature stability from the first drop to the last.
  • Zero plastic tubing: the hot-water circuits are stainless steel all the way through.
  • Ready in under 9 minutes, and the steam boiler has its own on/off switch for espresso-only mornings.

Plumb it in – or don't

The Tide arrives ready for a permanent water connection and a direct drain. Say goodbye to refilling tanks and emptying drip trays. Not ready to drill? Switch to the built-in water tank and set it up anywhere with a socket. You can move to plumb-in later without changing machines.

Dial in once, repeat every morning

Two programmable shot buttons (hold to record, release to save), a built-in shot timer and counter, barista shot lights, programmable hot water for americanos, an eco mode and automatic cleaning and descaling programmes. The Tide remembers your recipes so you can focus on the grind and the cup.

What is the difference between the Arkel Tide and the Arkel Coast?
Both are compact stainless steel dual boilers from Arkel in Porto. The Tide is built around a single gear pump with flow control by pump speed, and it is ready for a direct water line and drain. It is also narrower: 275 mm without its side handles. The Coast has larger boilers (0.7 L brew + 1 L steam), a dual-pump layout and manual flow control. Choose the Tide for a quiet gear pump and plumb-in, and the Coast for bigger boilers.

Do I have to plumb in the Arkel Tide?
No. The Tide has a built-in water tank, so you can use it anywhere with a power socket. When you're ready, a selection tap on the machine lets you switch to a permanent water line, and you can also connect a direct drain.

What do I need to connect the Tide to a water line?
The water inlet takes a G1/8 metal braided hose, and Arkel recommends a water softener filter (250 µm / #60) on the inlet. The installation must follow local plumbing and electrical regulations, so we recommend using a qualified installer. Contact us before you order and we'll help you plan your setup.

Why does a gear pump matter in an espresso machine?
A gear pump delivers a continuous, steady flow instead of the pulsing pressure of a vibration pump. That means quieter operation, smoother pressure curves and more control when you profile flow during a shot.

How long does the Arkel Tide take to heat up?
Arkel states a heat-up time of under 9 minutes. The steam boiler can be switched off on its own when you only want espresso.

Can I adjust brew temperature and pre-infusion?
Yes. The PID-controlled brew temperature can be set between 88 and 96 °C on the front panel. Pre-infusion can be switched on or off, and both its duration and the pause before full extraction are programmable.

What comes in the box?
A 58 mm double portafilter, a tamper, a double filter basket (16/18 g), a cleaning brush, a Brita water filter, descaler, cleaning powder and a small barista cloth.

What warranty and returns do I get from Bean Bros?
The Tide comes with a 2-year warranty and 15-day returns. It ships from our warehouse in Denmark to Europe and worldwide. Got questions? Reach our team through the contact page.
